    Wingate & Finchley

Pre Season Friendly

Wingate and Finchley continued their temperamental pre-season run with a 0-0 draw away at Hertford Town FC. Wingate’s Ola Williams saw red early on and both sides struggled to create chances across 90 minutes of frenetic football. Hertford’s goal was only really threatened in the dying stages and Wingate came away with their second draw on the bounce following Saturday’s 1-1 at home to National League side Woking.

The match in Hertford began as it meant to go on. After 15 minutes a coming together between Williams and a Hertford player saw the right-back dismissed, though Rob Laney was allowed to take his place for the second half. Tough tackling meant nimble feet were required and after half an hour Reece Beckles-Richards’ lob of one defender and flick past another allowed him a shot at goal that skimmed narrowly wide.

Wes Parker’s header was well-saved by the goalkeeper before the defender denied a clear one-on-one at the other end to keep the scores level at half time. A wrong-footed Shane Gore was able to parry away an early Hertford shot before his opposite number plucked Ahmet Rifat’s goal-bound header out of the air. The Hertford keeper was well-positioned again to palm away Nathan Mavila’s outswinging free kick in the dying seconds and was largely responsible for preserving a 0-0 draw until the end.
