In the battle of the Blues it was the home side who narrowly edged it to take home the three points through a solitary goal.
Wingate dominated territory for most of the match, but Margate scored against the run of play in the 23rd minute with a goal from out of nothing as Kadell Daniel reacted quickest to a loose rebound after a Gore save.
At the other end Tommy Tejan-Sie had a low drive saved, and Kane Farrell found the side netting from 20 yards.
After the break Chris Doyle had a header turned wide by the keeper, and Daniel was again dangerous for the hosts providing for Ramadan who blazed over.
There were few chances all game, and late on Elliot Reeves also fired over for Margate, before a late flurry by the visitors resulted in Ahmet Rifat having a volley from three yards out that was miraculously blocked on the line with the final kick of the match to see out the win for Margate.
The two sides meet again on Saturday in Finchley where Wingate will be desperate for three points.
