Wingate & Finchley slipped to a 3-1 defeat to Margate in the freezing Finchley cold at the Maurice Rebak Stadium, which ended all hopes of Velocity Trophy Round 2 success.
The opening 23 minutes failed to warm up the crowd, but the action sprung into life a minute later.
Adem Ramadam's corner was headed on towards Kadell Daniel who bundled it over the line to open the scoring for the visitors.
With 37 minutes gone, Roman Campbell burst down the left and forced a strong save from Jake Edwards-Alley who did well to judge the flight of the ball.
Two minutes before the break, Ramadam's free-kick was flicked on by Campbell but hit the post, with the hosts fortunate not to see the gap widen.
Three minutes into the second-half, Daniel bagged his brace by striking across into the bottom left after being found by Noel Leighton.
The Blues quickly found their driving force just past the hour mark. Tage Kennedy shimmied past three men and cut inside only to find his shot bounce back off the post.
Johnville Renee swiveled on the edge of the box and tested Joseph Tupper, who made a smart, low stop on 67 minutes.
Charlie Ruff's free-kick deflected off the wall and swerved onto the upright on 72 minutes.
But 'The Gate' ensured it was treble-trouble on 77 minutes when Ramadan sent Leighton through into the area who fired in with ease.
Alieu Njie was red-carded with 10 minutes left and on 88 minutes, Ruff tapped home after Margate failed to clear their lines for a mere consolation.
