Pre-season Trials in May
Wingate and Finchley 3-2 Cheshunt
After four successive defeats the U15s got back to winning ways. Having gone behind to an early goal, from an attack down our right hand side we came back in style. We equalised from a corner, Benjy climbing highest to head back down to Joseph who turned and shot home for 1-1.
Cheshunt then had the better of the chances, and Sam was at his best to thwart three very good chances, saving bravely at the strikers feet, and blocking two shots. His handling was superb from corners and he kept us in the game.
The second half saw us on top and playing with a determination 1. Not to lose, and 2. to get back to winning ways. Each boy chase, harried and closed Cheshunt players down, forcing them into mistakes, we were on top. We had with 20 minutes to go, a free kick on the edge of the box. Marco stepped up and scored low past the keeper. 2-1 Wingate. We carried on with our pressure, and from another corner, forced the ball home, Joseph touched on Josh Adewoye stuck a leg out and diverted the ball home 3-1.
With a makeshift back four, Alex at left back and Dan at right back, we were comfortable. Until a long range effort 7 minutes from time sailed over Sam's head for 3-2. We held out for a very deserved win. A great workman like performance, every player put a real shift in today.

Wingate and Finchley 1-2 Hitchin Town
Two games in two days, and a chance to get some League action after three Cup defeats. We started the game very brightly and were on top from the off, we played some great stuff, but had to be aware of Hitchin's threat in attack. We had the first opening, Marco fed Andreas and he was felled in the box, Penalty. Marco stepped up but the keeper saved and Nicholas could not finish the rebound. We then created another chance, Luca finding Andreas but he could not finish and the keeper saved from the edge of the area.
Then we went behind from an in swinging free kick that found a head at the back post and the ball nestled in the far corner. 1-0 Hitchin. Once again we were behind while dominating. We finished the half 1-0 down.
The second half saw us go further behind in the 2nd minute from a nothing shot from the edge of the box, that went through 3 pairs of legs and into the corner. 2-0 Hitchin. The next 38 minutes saw us attack, attack, attack. Benjy put a ball across the box, which Nicholas failed to meet, another cross heading toward Joseph and he just could'nt meet the ball with his head. We then won a free kick on the edge of the box. This time Marco found the net via the post and it was 2-1. 20 minutes to go, and Hitchin just withstood pressure and more pressure.
We then had a succession of corners Benjy's header just over, and in the last minute, Benjy turned in the box and just fired over. Today was a brilliant performance, by the team. We will play worse and win, we could not have tried harder today.
Mom: Dan Turk, covered every blade of grass. Goal Scorer: Marco Geremia
Team: Brazier, Howell, Reynolds, Hadjithemistou, Barry, Okoli, Prodromou, Chrisostomou, Aghadiuno, Kouroushi, Begueria, Turk, Quattromini, Geremia, Abbate, Toscani.
Wingate and Finchley 0-1 Academy FC
Another Cup game to focus on, and the boys were really focused from the off. We were playing Academy FC who were the same players who played for Waltham Forest the week before.
We were determined to avenge last week's defeat, and pressurised the AFC goal for 25 minutes without AFC causing us any pressure. We just couldnt find a breakthrough, then against the run of play a long range effort took a deflection passed Sam and we were 1-0 down. We were having one of those runs were nothing was going in for us.
Again we pressurised the AFC defence and they really did'nt leave their half for most of the game, yet we just could not breach their dogged defending. We left another cup competition and ran out losing 1-0 today.
After almost a month with no games, we started this game very rusty. Waltham Forest put us under pressure from the very first minute. However after weathering the storm we went ahead from a Joseph Toscani header 1-0 Wingate. We grew into the game but went 2-1 behind to two sloppy pieces of defending. We continued pressurising the Waltham Forest defence, and Benjy equlisied with a great solo effort. Half time 2-2
The second half saw us come out with more possession, but we went behind again 3-2 to Waltham Forest, before Benjy raced clear to lob the keeper for 3-3. Again we fell behind, again sloppy defending, and faced an uphill task to get level, but Luca crossed deep and Benjy was on hand to level with minutes remaining with a header at the far post for his hat-trick. Full time 4-4 and we were into extra time.
Waltham Forest scored in the first minute and for the next 19 minutes we camped ourselves in their half and just could not find the net. The game finished 5-4 to Waltham Forest.
Mom: Benjy Aghadiuno deserved his 3 goals, with a tireless display. Goal Scorers: Benjy Aghadiuno 3, Joseph Toscani
Team: Brazier, Howell, Reynolds, Hadjithemistou, Okoli, Chrisostomou, Prodromou, Aghadiuno, Kouroushi, Begueria, Turk, Adewoye, Quattromini, Geremia, Toscani, Abbate
Wingate and Finchley 2-2 LNER Youth (Away win 2-4 on Penalties)
Middlesex Cup Round 2
A disappointing display for the U15s, going out of the County Cup in the early rounds. Having gone ahead through an individual battling goal from Andreas Prodromou, we missed two very easy chances to go further ahead. We then were sucker punched into feeling comfortable to letting a goal in from nothing and conceding for 1-1. We then started the second half very lax and fell further behind and were now chasing the game, and equalised 5 minutes from time from a Josh Adewoye for 2-2. We tried to push on and Nicholas Kouroushi had a long range effort brilliantly tipped over the bar
Extra time came and we were lucky to survive a penalty scare. Extra time finished at 2-2, and to compound things we missed our first two penalties to lose out. Well done LNER.
Mom: Sam Brazier made some great saves in goal. Goal Scorers: Andreas Prodromou, Josh Adewoye , Pens: (Toby Okoli, Marco Geremia)
Team: Brazier, Howell, Barry, Prodromou, Okoli, Kouroushi, Begueria, Jones, Turk, Adewoye, Quattromini, Geremia, Toscani, Abbate.
Wingate and Finchley 4-0 Bishops Stortford
Wingate U15s started the game on fire today. 33 seconds on the clock and the first goal of the afternoon to Josh Adewoye slotting home after a tenacious run by Benjy Aghadiuno. 1 - 0 Wingate and with Alex Hadji and Nicholas Kouroushi spraying passes left and right, chances were coming at a rate of knots.
Nicholas found Marco with a defence splitting pass, but Marco fired wide, then found Luca through on goal, but he fired wide. Benjy and Marco combined down the left, but Benjy fired just over. Where was goal number two coming from. Marco delivered a great corner and Toby Okoli headed home for 2 - 0.
Changes were made and we soon went 3 - 0 up. Nicholas' corner found Dan Turk at the far post and his bullet of a header hit the back of the net. A first half of dominance and a 3 - 0 lead.
The second half saw Wingate dominate possession, but we just could not find that elusive fourth goal. Benjy and Andreas Prodromou linked everything up front great interchanges bring others into play and they were both unlucky not to score on a few occasions.
The fourth goal did eventually arrive from Benjy's low hard cross, that found Luca Quattromini with a low shot into the corner of the net for 4 - 0.
A great win for Wingate & Finchley and a very impressive performance.
MOM:Andreas Prodromou linked play between the lines brilliantly, followed by Benjy Ahgadiuno did'nt score but was always involved. Nicholas Kouroushi another great performance in midfield.

Barton Rovers 1-3 Wingate and Finchley
A long trip up the M1 and into the Bedfordshire Countryside. Our first away game of the season. Barton Rovers our hosts and on a very warm sunny afternoon, our boys turned up focused on clinching 3 points.
We started very strongly, our Midfield trio of Dan, Nic & Ben dominant, and first to the ball. We scored a great first goal mid-way in the first half, Ben Jones held the ball up and laid back to Nicholas, who clipped the ball 30 yards over the Barton right backs head into the path of Marco, his first time driven cross into the area found Benjy's head for 1-0 and a deserved lead. Nicholas then fired a free kick just over the bar from 25 yards out, and Wingate continued to press. The Barton keeper made two excellent saves from Josh and Ben Jones and we went in at half time 1-0 up.
We went further ahead early in the second half from Alex's corner, Nicholas header was cleared off the line and Benjy was on hand to head home 2-0 Wingate.
Another chance came another delightful ball from Marco found Luca but the keeper was equal to Luca's shot. Then Luca raced onto another cross field pass, flicked up with his right foot, volleyed with his left, and the ball hit the crossbar.
Chances came and went Nicholas weaved his way past 3 defenders and his shot was blocked. Alex's free kick just went wide, and the boys looked extremely comfortable. With 5 minutes to go, Barton Rovers scored. The defence fell asleep and allowed a low cross to reach the far post and Barton scored to set up a frantic last few minutes.
We then hit back with a goal of our own, Ben Jones great run and low cross found Josh Adewoye to slot home 3-1.
A great win for Wingate & Finchley and a very impressive performance.
MOM: Dan Turk, Covered every blade of grass, Benjy two great headed goals, Marco great crosses, Nicholas pulled the strings in first half. Ben Jones dynamic display. Goal Scorers: Aghadiuno 2, Adewoye 1 Team: Brazier, Reynolds, Hadjithemistou, Howell, Barry, Okoli, Aghadiuno, Kouroushi, Begueria, Jones, Turk, Adewoye, Quattromini, Geremia, Toscani
Wingate and Finchley 2-0 Brentwood Town
EJA Cup Round 1
This week saw us entertain Brentwood Town in the Cup at home, and a game of two contrasting halves. The first half saw us play great cohesive football, creating chances and dominating midfield. However if you do not take chances as we found the week before, dominating possession doesn't win games.
However today we scored from two corner routines, both in swinging crosses from Marco, the 1st found Benjy's head but was bundled over the line by Nicholas. 1-0 Wingate & Finchley. The second came minutes later, again same routine Bengy arrived and scored wit a stooping header 2-0 Wingate. We should really of taken the game beyond Brentwood but couldn't manage to finish the chances we had. Half time 2-0 Wingate & Finchley.
The second half saw Brentwood put us under severe pressure and when their striker blasted over from 6 yards, maybe it was our day. We stopped playing the football we had played in the first half, and starting sitting too deep and allowing Brentwood to come at us. Although we kept them at distance, and saw the half out. Wingate & Finchley through to the next round of the cup.
MOM: Tobe Okoli & Josh Barry at the heart of the defence. Dan Turk & Maroc Geremia great performances as also Nic Kouroushi Goal Scorers: Kouroushi , Aghadiuno Team: Brazier, Hadjithemistou, Howell, Barry, Okoli, Prodromou, Abbate, Aghadiuno, Kouroushi, Beguiria, Jones, Turk, Adewoye, Quattromini, Geremia
Wingate and Finchley 0-1 Biggleswade Town
The cruelest of ways to end a game after what was a fantastic team performance. Wingate dominated possession whilst Biggleswade played on the counter attack with great speed.
The first half was played at break neck speed, both teams tried to create chances, both defences coming out on top. Half time saw a 0-0 score line.
The second half saw more chances to both sides both keepers coming out on top. Wingate should had gone one up when Marco was put through on goal but sliced wide, then his long range shot was brilliantly turned over. Luca then went on a mazy run but saw his effort on goal squeeze inches past the post. Meanwhile Sam Brazier produced 3 world class saves to deny Biggleswade.
With seconds left on the clock Biggleswade found space in the box to score for a 1-0 win. Great performance from the under 15s.
