Wingate and Finchley 4 Stanway Rovers 1:
By Josh Cartwright
The Blues started the game with a continued tenacity from the Ramsgate fixture, breaking the Rover’s line multiple times, but falling victim to the offside trap.
A slow start to the game for the visitors, often misplacing passes and losing possession, which ultimately lead to a pouncing Gianluca Botti nestling an effort home for his first goal since his return
It didn’t take the hosts long to double their lead. A fast break, followed by a sly pass to Anointed Chukwu by Joseph Johnson, gave the hosts an increased deficit.
However, the madness didn’t stop there, as the Rovers’ heads didn’t drop at all, firing back instantaneously through Tyrese Osbourne.
From there, the search for an equaliser became a likely target for Stanway Rovers, but it would have to wait for the second half as they leave the pitch trailing.
With the second half well underway, both sides reach a stage of fear of conceding again, resulting in a lack of chances being created.
Wingate restored their two-goal lead through a nicely worked passage of play between Ashley Nzala and Joseph Johnson, with Nzala finding the net.
Not long after, Casey Shann found himself on the scoresheet with a sublime finish to the bottom corner, almost confirming a Blues win.
A very professional and composed second half was the difference between the sides, as the Blues made the most of their chances. Mixed with a solid defensive line, the hosts made life very hard for the newly promoted side.
