Winless Wingate and Anointed Chukwu upset promotion bid Dulwich Hamlet, giving the Blues their first win of the campaign,
Wingate started the first half strong with efforts by Kwadwo Bugyei-Kyei and Ben Frempah resulting in a goal line clearance by Samir Caruthers.
The Blues continued their charge through Caoilan Mcgettigan but a wayward shot from Ashley Nzala saw the visitors get a goal kick.
However, it was Dulwich who came closest first. A great piece of play between Gaspar Mico and David Smith resulted in Smith hitting the post.
Hamlet’s pursuit continued as Nyren Clunis came close with an effort to the bottom left corner, however it was calmly dealt with by Charlie Grainger.
As the first half began to close out, Wingate were confronted with a flurry of corners to defend, with the most threatening being a blocked shot by Samir Carruthers, following a choreographed set-piece routine.
The first booking of the game went towards the way of Dulwich Hamlet, after Jordan Wynter took down a pouncing John Shamalo.
However, it resulted in a lofted effort by Sam Cornish, therefore leaving the game goalless going into the second half.
Dulwich took no chances of going a player down going into the second half, seeing Jordan Wynter make way for Sean Bonnett-Johnson.
A strong start by both sides but it was the Blues who looked most promising with a heroic run by Kai Thomas-Fraser, ending in a saved shot by Ashley Nzala.
A double substitution for the blues saw the return of Camilo Restrepo and the introduction of Anointed Chukwu to continue their surge for a winner, not long before the Blues saw their first card, with it going the way of Sam Cornish.
Chukwu had his first taste in front of goal within two minutes, gifting the Blues their first of the game.
The Blues began a period of nail-biting football as they put up great resilience to deny the visitors, whilst creating ones of their own.
As the clock began to tick down, time ran out for Dulwich, granting Wingate and Finchley all three points and their first win of the season.
The Blues gave the 364 people in attendance plenty to cheer about as they can hopefully use this confidence going into their game away to Chatham town at the Bauvill Stadium.
