Blues in Abandoned Draw with Folkestone

A thrilling encounter was ultimately abandoned in a heartbreaking end to a captivating affair, with the score at 3-3 and goalkeeper Prince Adegoke taken to hospital.

As soon as the first whistle was blown, both teams were at each other’s throats. In only the second minute the Blues broke the deadlock, two minutes earlier than they did at home last week - this time Destiny Oladipo in a one on one with the Folkstone goalkeeper and sending his opponent the wrong way. After the opener, Wingate continued to threaten but Invicta retaliated, with Thomas Derry heading the ball past the goalkeeper from a deep right-wing cross. Both sides level again with just five minutes on the clock.

During the first half, the home side looked more dangerous in open play, whilst the visitors threatened from set pieces. In the 38th minute Wingate’s number 9 Ogo Obi returned the lead to the home side by putting the ball in the bottom left corner of the goal giving the Folkstone goalkeeper no chance.

Wingate finished the half with another goal, just three minutes later. Obi struck again placing the ball in the bottom right corner of the goal for his second and the Blues' third, making it eight goals scored by the Blues in three matches this season.

The tables turned in the second half with Folkestone scoring twice. Firstly, from a free kick headed in by Folkestone's number 4 Ian Gayle in the 59th minute, with the second goal being from another set piece. This time the ball was whipped in from a corner and headed towards goal by Gayle for the equaliser. Between these two goals, Rhamar Garrett-Douglas had been sent off for the Blues for receiving two yellow cards.

20 minutes after the Invicta equaliser, the match was forced to be abandoned with the Wingate and Finchley goalkeeper Pricne Adegoke going down inside his box after a collision with Folkestone’s Tom Derry.

It is likely the game will need to be replayed and both sides will await the League’s decision, but in more important and positive news Prince was discharged from hospital in the early hours of Sunday with no signs of serious injury. All at the club wish Prince well and look forward to seeing him back in the Blues goal soon.
