Canvey Island preview

After Wingate & Finchley's superb display of heart and determination in the FA Cup second qualifying round win against Conference South outfit Concord Rangers, the Blues now turn their attention back to the league when they entertain Canvey Island at the Harry Abrahams Stadium on Tuesday evening. Canvey will be coming into this game off the back of a great result themselves having hammered Farnborough 6-2 away from their Frost Financial Stadium home, indicating that Danny Heale's side will be high in confidence as they look to maintain their miniature fine run of form. The visitors from twelve league games have had indifferent results; winning five, drawing three and having lost four. Two of those defeats came prior to Canvey showing great character when they beat VCD Athletic 2-1, before their dominant display at the weekend. Sitting comfortably in 10th position, they will be eager to push on. They're a side who do score many goals, having amounted 23 already, ten of those goals coming from a player which Simon Lane will be wary of, Martin Tuohy. However, they do also tend to concede having picked the ball out of their own net on 21 occasions. Last season's fixtures saw a mix of the spoils, as the Blues won the home fixture 2-0, before travelling to Essex on the last day of the season when it was Heale's side who accumulated all three points, in a dramatic 3-2 win to stay in the Ryman League. A player who scored in both games was Rob Laney, who is in fine form this season with four goals so far and will be looking to bolster his good goalscoring record against Canvey. After their disappointing loss away at Enfield Town, the Blues showed phenomenal fortitude after they out willed the Beach Boys on Saturday to progress further in the FA Cup. Having lost only two out of their ten league games, winning six of them, Wingate will be hoping to further increase their astounding start to the season. The North London outfit have only conceded eight goals, with three conceded in the league at home, exhibiting the task in front of Canvey Island. Having netted 18 times, 10 of those coming at Summers Lane, the Blues will be focused on maintaining, and adding to that record. Match Preview by Khalid Karimullah
