Codicote 1 Wingate & Finchley 7

Wingate & Finchley won their second preseason friendly in convincing style at South Midlands side Codicote after a late flurry of goals.

The heavens had opened just two minutes before kick off and a monsoon followed throughout the entire first half, but Wingate took no time in getting going as David Knight scored in the opening minute.

Knight was denied midway through the half by an incredible diving save, but the unfortunate keeper injured himself in the process. Attacking-midfielder Karl Oliyidi beat the replacement in the 27th minute with a low sliding shot into the bottom right corner. Conditions were tricky with the downpour, and the next goal would not arrive until ten minutes after the break through Nico Muir, one of nine half-time substitutes.

The home side pulled a goal back with a volley from a deep free kick, and looked most likely to score next, as the skies cleared and made the occasion a more pleasant affair. However Jack Read scored in the 75th minute slamming home a rebound. Gavin Suddell scored next tapping in from Dan Nielsen's low square cross, and Read scored again after a superb tricky run by Muir to set him up.

Read crowned off the match with a hat-trick, scoring the side's seventh goal with a skidding drive from 30 yards with the final kick. Lineup: Smith (Davies 46), Mark Goodman (Nielsen 46), Wright (Foley 46), Sogbanmu (Fredericks 46) Weatherstone (Rhys Darg 46), Street, Karl Oliyidi (Suddell 46), Tejan-Sie (Fisher 46), Knight (Nico Muir), Rob Laney (Read 46), Shulton. Goals: Knight 1, Oliyidi 27, Muir 55, Read 75 86 89, Suddell 82.
