Fisher preview

Wingate & Finchley travel to Dulwich Hamlet on Monday night to face Fisher FC in the London Senior Cup. The Blues fell at this stage of the competition last year and will be hoping to go a few rounds better under Simon Lane. Last season saw the Blues beat Cray Wanderers on penalties before losing to Cray Valley at the second hurdle. Wingate & Finchley are two time winners of this competition, the last success coming in 2011 in a 3-1 win over rivals Hendon. The old Finchley FC were also London Senior Cup winners twice, so the club will be looking to pick up winners medals in May to bring a fifth title back to North Finchley. However, Wingate find themselves getting back on track after a short blip in October. With two wins in two games going into this fixture, Lanes side will be confident of keeping the streak going and progressing into the next round to face Cockfosters at home. Fortunately for manager, Lane, his side go into this fixture with both strikers in red, or blue - hot form. Rob Laney has scored three goals in two games whilst Lee Barney has four in the same timeframe, both will be looking to improve their tallies in this fixture. Jack Metcalfe continues to deputise well for an injured Bobby Smith and, despite not keeping a clean sheet in the past few fixtures, has kept Wingate in games at times. Hosts, Fisher, will be looking to get back to match fitness after a nine day absence from football, a 5-2 humbling at the hands of Greenwich Borough FC. The Fish find themselves a lowly 16th in the Southern Counties East Football League, having won only one of their last five games and only three since the season began in August in the League. It wont be an easy fixture for the visiting Blues, cup games never are, but the travelling fans should be hopeful of a win. The competition isn't a large one in terms of numbers so four wins would take the Blues back to the final. By Nikhil Saglani
