Match Report by Noah Bercott.
Saturday afternoon saw Wingate & Finchley travel to South London for their first reverse fixture of the league season, facing Dulwich Hamlet after emerging 3-2 victors at home against the same opponent on the opening day of the season.
The Blues were not deterred by the almost 3,000 in attendance at Champion Hill on Saturday, with Loïc Hernandez seeing his chance saved as early as the second minute. Dulwich looked to grow into the game in the opening quarter of an hour but this was quickly stopped by Wingate & Finchley's number 9 Ogo Obi. Obi received the ball on the right side, cut inside and unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top left corner with his left foot to give the Blues the lead.
After taking the lead, it was the Blues who looked more likely to score the next goal and extend the lead, with Andronicos Georgiou's header straight at the home keeper. Dulwich had a lot of the ball in the first half but were unable to really trouble Charlie Grainger in the Blues' goal.
That sentiment changed in the second half, with the home side coming out of the blocks fast. A Ryley Scott strike from distance was well saved by Grainger in the 55th minute, but from the resulting corner the hosts were level, the ball falling to captain Jerome Binnom-Williams on the edge of the box who struck the ball low and hard into the bottom corner.
At 1-1, the game opened up and it was clear that another goal was coming in this game, but with half chances falling to both sides, it could've been either side that took all three points. Ten minutes from time Tyrece Briscoe had an excellent chance saved for the Blues and Ryan Lowe had a free kick in a dangerous area but his dead ball strike went over the bar.
Into the final minute of added time and it was the home side that took the victory, experienced striker Danny Mills winning a header and sending the home fans into a frenzy as the Hamlet took all three points at the death. Late heartbreak for the Blues, but a chance to put that behind us on Tuesday as we face Carshalton Athletic at the Maurice Rebak Stadium. Tickets are available online or on the gate.
